Heartbeat

Lots to post about!

WARNING WARNING WARNING.

DISCLAIMER: I'm warning you know - I may talk about some "nasty" things, so if you are squeamish or don't want to be grossed out - stop reading now. Or forever hold your peace...or your lunch. I'm going to talk about throw up and poop, just so you know.

So when did I do my last post? Not sure, it seems like forever ago when I was posting about... who knows what. I had a week of no symptoms, well, maybe a week. It may have just been a few good days in a row, more likely. Then my symptoms got worse. Terrible. I didn't know I could throw up so frequently. And the throwing up was like a timeline. If I could hold off and throw up only at night, it would come out in stages. Dinner would resurface in the toilet, very fresh and looking like dinner. After a minute or so (of intense sobbing into the toilet and being so lazy I don't want to pull myself off the bathroom floor), BR decided to return lunch. Looking like a smashed up version of lunch, but definitely not looking like dinner. Then after another minute of the aforementioned sobbing, what I can only guess as breakfast returns. Not a definite structure, but the same color as breakfast. In less than five minutes, I've re-experienced the timeline of my food for the day. Then I dry-heave for the remainder of the evening. If I drink water, it comes up just like water, but strangely violent and produces a massive splash in the toilet. Not cool.

ON a different note. We were able to go to the doctor this morning to hear BR heartbeat for the first time. The doctor/midwife was asking about my symptoms... and said that the nausea and extreme vomiting is normal, but a good sign. Sick mommy = happy healthy baby. They had previously prescribed Zofran and phenergan for nausea, but like most medicines ... each has a drawback. 1. Phenergan - take this and feel relief from nausea, but fall asleep in 30 minutes and sleep so deeply that it takes twice as long to rouse in the morning. 2. Zofran - take this and feel daytime relief from nausea, but you may not have a bowel movement for two weeks. Preganancy is naturally constipating, so the last thing I need is side effects from #2 (haha, okay - maybe I'm juvenile, but I thought that was funny. Making a reference to zofran as the second med, but a pun on #2 like poo, haha). So she asked if I was taking my Zofran to help with the nausea, and I explained my issues/concerns/constipation and that I was only taking it PRN (as needed). She said to take it regularly, and gave me a regimen of fiber supplements and milk of magnesia, so hopefully I will have a food baby this week. Fingers crossed!

So the important reason for the appointment - we were able to hear the heartbeat. Really strange to hear this fast beating little noise coming from my "belly", reassuring the fact that there is something growing in there (besides a large #2)!!! :) Heartbeat was strong in the 140s.

The old wives tale says that "Little boys have heart rates between 120-140, and Little girls have heart rates between 140-180". Right on the edge. Only time will tell what this menacing little baby will become... a messy sticky mess of crafts and paint, or a muddy grummy mess with bugs and trucks.

I have an appointment in two weeks for a "cervix check". Not sure what that will entail, but they may be able to tell the gender early. Not guaranteed, but the ultrasound may show details! We hadn't scheduled that appointment "off" for Johnathan, we had only scheduled him to come to the May 15th appointment - where we were definitely going to find out if BR is a boy or a girl. So if he's not able to come, I'm going to have her write it on a piece of paper and place in an envelope, and JR and I will have a private moment to open the envelope together. :)
